Plowboys BBQ 'Yardbird' Rub - 198g (7 oz)

American Royal BBQ Champion

Plowboys BBQ 'Yardbird' Rub works great on seafood, pork, and especially chicken.

Try the rub from the team that won the 2009 American Royal Invitational!  From the team of Todd Johns and his brother-in-law Randy Hinck (who compete as the Pork Pullin Plowboys), who bested 123 past grand champions to capture the overall crown.  Plowboys Yardbird rub was developed for competition BBQ, but for those of us that are just backyard bbq geeks, it gives us the opportunity to produce award-winning BBQ without the competition.  This is a savory rub, and a touch of sweetness is followed on the back of the tongue with just a little heat.

Ingredients: Salt, Sugar, Spices including chili pepper, paprika, dehydrated garlic and onion, celery powder, mustard flour, disodium inosinate and guanylate, not more than 2% of calcium stearate to prevent caking.

I have tried this on whole chickens, pulled pork and chicken pieces. It's fantastic. There's a wonderful flavour about it that I can't work out. The only slight downside is I find it a little salty when used on something like the chicken pieces which have a large surface area to meat. Perfect on the larger items like pulled pork though and certainly not as salty as some other popular rubs.

I now find I mix this into chillies and curries as well. A fantastic base flavour as well as on it's own merit.

I gave this a try after a few recommendations on the British BBQ forum, I tried it on some chicken wings, cooked in a kettle BBQ for approx. 20 mins, then seared the skin over direct heat. They tasted very nice, a few people at the party asked what the taste was. They ended up taking a photo of the Yardbird pot and looks like they'll be ordering some also.

I've now done 4 sets of wings and all taste great.
